How Sodium Uses AI - Quietly, Everywhere

When most software companies talk about "AI features," they're often presented as a button with a multi-coloured gradient and a magic wand icon.

That's not our approach.

At Sodium, we've built AI into the foundation - laced throughout the product rather than bolted on. It's subtle, practical, and designed to make your day smoother without you having to think about it.

Here are a few examples of where AI quietly lends a hand:

Building Workflows

When you create a new workflow - say, 'Onboard new client' - the software automatically generates a sensible set of workflow steps based on the title and description. You can edit or rearrange them, but you're not starting from a blank page.

Defining Services and Pricing

Add a new service by name and description, and AI fills in the details for you: suggested pricing, and perhaps more interestingly, what we call 'pricing factors' - variables that might affect how much you charge. For example, add Bookkeeping and it might suggest adjusting your fee based on record-keeping quality or the client's software package - not only suggest it, but actually set this up for you to review and either edit or accept as-is. If you manually add a new pricing factor by just giving the title, then it'll suggest options. During testing, we entered 'CEO's age' as a pricing factor, and it came back with age brackets, price variations, and rather amusingly full justifications.

Generating Proposal and Engagement Letter Content

Every service in Sodium can have its own proposal text and T&Cs or engagement letters. Instead of writing these from scratch, AI drafts them for you for every new service. You can even tell it which of your existing templates or documents to use as a reference, so everything stays on brand and consistent.

AI Settings

In your AI settings, you can define your context, eg whether you're an accountant, bookkeeper, or other professional, so the system tailors its suggestions appropriately. And for expert AI users you can choose your preferred LLM. You can route all AI activity through your own OpenRouter account, letting you choose which models are used and where your data goes and not be subject to any usage limits (which we haven't implemented yet!)
