Tasks

Accountancy work runs on deadlines. Monthly bookkeeping, quarterly VAT, annual accounts - the cycle never stops. Sodium's task management helps you stay on top of everything without drowning in spreadsheets or sticky notes.

Tasks in Sodium are linked to clients and services, assigned to team members, and can follow workflows that break complex work into manageable steps.

List & Calendar Views

Switch between list view and calendar view with a single click. The list view gives you a compact, sortable table of tasks. The calendar view lays your tasks out across a timeline so you can see how work is distributed.

The calendar supports daily, weekly, and monthly views - switch between them to zoom in on a busy day or zoom out for a broader picture. Drag and drop a task to a different date to reschedule its start date instantly. Whichever view you're in, all your filters and queries still apply, so you're always looking at exactly the tasks you care about.

In either view you can choose to show or hide workflow steps - expand them for a detailed breakdown of each task, or collapse them for a cleaner overview. You decide how much detail you see.

You can also update task status directly from the list or calendar without drilling down into the task - start, skip, block, complete, and more, all from the view you're already in.

Finding Tasks

With hundreds of tasks across your practice, finding the right ones matters. Sodium lets you query tasks by any combination of criteria - status, assignee, due date, client, service, category, and more.

Build the exact view you need: overdue tasks assigned to you, all VAT returns due this month, blocked tasks for a specific client. The query builder makes it simple to slice and dice your task list however you need.

Found a query you'll use again? Save it as a view. See the Saved Views section below for more.

Recurring Tasks

Most accountancy work follows a schedule. Rather than creating tasks manually every month, set up recurring tasks that generate automatically:

  • Monthly bookkeeping for clients on a bookkeeping service
  • Quarterly VAT returns for VAT-registered clients
  • Annual accounts preparation after year-end
  • Confirmation statement reminders

Link recurring tasks to services, and they'll automatically apply to any client taking that service. When a client accepts a proposal, the relevant recurring tasks are created for them.

If you import services from Sodium's built-in service library, recurring tasks and workflows are set up automatically - giving you a complete task structure out of the box with no manual configuration.

Date Range Filtering

View tasks by any date range you need:

  • Today's tasks
  • This week
  • This month
  • Custom date range

Combined with status filters, you can quickly answer questions like "What's overdue?" or "What needs to be done by Friday?"

Focus Panel

The Focus Panel is a slide-out side panel that lets you work through your tasks without leaving whatever page you're on. Complete workflow steps, add notes, and update progress - all while keeping your current context.

It's powered by saved views and is fully customisable - configure which tabs appear, what they show, and in what order. It's such a useful feature that it has its own feature page.

Task Categories

Define your own task categories to organise work however makes sense for your practice. You might use:

  • Accounts
  • Tax
  • VAT
  • Payroll
  • Company Secretarial
  • Advisory

Each category gets its own colour, making it easy to see at a glance what kind of task you're looking at - whether in the task list or on an individual task page.

You're in complete control - you define the list, order and colours. Don't want to use them? Delete all of them and Task Categories will be removed from all other screens, reducing any potential clutter.

Saved Views

Once you've built a query that shows exactly the tasks you need, save it as a view so you can get back to it with one click. Saved views remember your filters, sort order, and display preferences.

Saved views are reusable across Sodium:

  • Add them to the main navigation menu for quick access to your most important task lists
  • Use them to power Focus Panel tabs, so the side panel shows exactly the tasks you want
  • Use them in dashboard widgets to surface key task data on your home screen

Create a view once and use it wherever you need it - no duplication, no re-configuring the same filters in multiple places.

Dashboard Integration

Tasks feed directly into your dashboard. Configure widgets to show:

  • Tasks due today
  • Overdue tasks
  • Tasks by status
  • Any combination of filters

Start every day knowing exactly what needs your attention.
